Thursday, June 17, 2010 in Austin, TX -- Introduction to Healing Across
Generations: Therapists are discovering the absolute importance of
family and social systems for explaining and dealing with illnesses. God also
sees us not as isolated individuals but in relation to our family of origin and
to our religious family. This introductory workshop looks at God’s way of
healing throughout salvation history, as a model for how God heals us
individually in our family system. We learn to diagram our family tree, discover
issues that need healing, and take steps in the healing process. We also
consider healing of past generations which continue to influence the present. We
will conclude with a healing service. The workshop will be held at Miriam
Burke’s home at 3818 Steck Ave., Austin, TX 78759. We will begin at 10 AM and
conclude at 4:00 PM. Lunch will be provided so be sure and register. 3818 Steck
Ave., Austin, TX 78759. $50 Registration fee, lunch included. Contact:

June 25-27, 2010 Creation Continues 3: Releasing the Holy Spirit through
Play Retreat at Saint Anthony Retreat Center, San Antonio, TX, Given by
Fr. Bob Sears, SJ. In our 2008 retreat we dealt with what we now know of the
unfolding universe and its implications for our Christian life. In 2009 we
continued that link to creation and the newness Jesus brings to relationships.
For 2010 we chose to continue now with the Holy Spirit through play. Prov
8:30-31 says of Wisdom: “I was beside [God] as his craftsman, and I was his
delight day by day, Playing before him all the while, playing on the surface of
his earth, and I found delight in the children of men.” Our culture is
pragmatic. The Creator Holy Spirit is sent to share God’s Love, communicating it
in all the splendor of the cosmos and in human life. Play is giving space to
trial and creativity, even in the midst of trials and suffering. God freely
creates out of love. We are to share that freedom. The book I would recommend
this year is Bill Johnson’s Dreaming with God: Co-Laboring with God for
Cultural Transformation (Destiny Image Publ., 2006). Another fine book is
Authority in Prayer by Dutch Sheets (Bethany House, 2006). I will also be using
an older book by Hugo Rahner, Man at Play (Herder and Herder, 1972).
Registration: $250 for room or $175 for day participant.
